Agriculture & Food: Pest Management

Pests destroy gardens, forests and farms, infest homes and businesses and spread devastating diseases. North Carolina Cooperative Extension programs help homeowners, commercial pesticide applicators and others prevent and control pest damage in ways that are economical, environmentally sound and safe for human health.

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is a key component to profitability for today's farmers offering the grower the chance to reduce pesticide use, save money and protect the environment. With the help of Cooperative Extension, using threshold guidelines, and showing how to scout with a sweep net to determine when to treat the crop. Treating too early would likely lead to treating twice, thus increasing expenses and the use of pesticides.
