Pasture Renovation Initiative “Seed” Program
From NC Foundation for Soil & Water Conservation Press Release 2-18-19:
“To replenish lost forage and to keep productive soils in the fields, the
summer perennials or summer annuals for pasture renovation to eligible producers at no cost as supplies last. Producers with pastures impacted by Hurricane Florence and Tropical Storm Michael in the counties identified are eligible to request up to $500 in seed for new applicants. Producers who participated in the 2018 winter seed program may request up to $250 in seed, provided there are funds remaining after seed is awarded to new applicants. The total amount of seed that may be provided to a producer will be based on the number of acres impacted, as indicated by the survey applicant. Seed will be available for pick up at a designated seed distributor at a designated time. Producers will be notified by email regarding the day they can pick up the seed. All other transportation, planting costs and labor is to be borne by the producer and is not eligible for reimbursement.
Seed Available – The number of bags included is an upper estimate, it may be less based on your renovation needs. Each new applicant is eligible for up to $500 in seed. If funds remain, applicants that participated in 2018 are eligible for up to $250 in seed.
- Gaucho Bermuda up to 3 bags (recommended seeding rate 8 to 12 lbs per acre)
- MoJo Crabgrass up to 4 bags (recommended seeding rate 5 to 8 lbs per acre)
- TifQuick Bahiagrass 1 bag (recommended seeding rate 10 to 20 lbs per acre)
- Sorghum Sudan AS 6401 up to 8 bags (recommended seeding rate 20 to 30 lbs per acre)
- Millet Tifleaf 3 up to 7 bags (recommended seeding rate 15 to 20 lbs per acre)
Producers are asked to submit an online application at ww.ncsoilwater.org. The Foundation will begin accepting applications Monday, February 18, 2019, and close the application period at 9 a.m. on March 17. Producers will be notified by April 1 as to the status of their application.
