Peanuts in many fields are up and growing and in some cases thrips injury is becoming apparent. We are also seeing weed escapes, especially if PPI and PRE herbicides were limited. Make sure thrips damage is not excessive before making applications of paraquat plus Basagran. Acephate can be mixed with paraquat, Basagran and residual herbicides. This helps on future thrips populations but does not help the plant recover immediately. Excessive injury from thrips feeding and paraquat can reduce yields substantially. Take a close look for thrips injury before applying paraquat plus Basagran. If you have a lot of thrips injury, apply acephate as quickly as possible and give plants about 10 days to recover before you apply paraquat plus Basagran (alone or with residual herbicides.)

In many cases, you will see more thrips injury following imidacloprid (Admire Pro or generics) than following AgLogic or Thimet. Take a close look in each field prior to application of paraquat plus Basagran, but look especially close in all fields treated with imidacloprid.
