Collapse ▲Janet Bryan, McDowell County EFNEP educator, and Bridget Burnette, Coordinator for the Adult High School at McDowell Technical Community College have partnered together for several years. Because of their collaborative efforts, they won the 2022 EFNEP Team Award and have continued this remarkable team effort in 2023. EFNEP lessons are conducted in the Math 4 class where students learn math skills that they will use in their everyday lives. They study fractions while measuring recipe ingredients, create shopping lists and budgets using sales flyers, and learn how to assess nutrient content of foods by multiplying amounts by serving sizes.
To celebrate their success and graduation from EFNEP, the students prepare an entire celebratory lunch for themselves and community members showcasing the food preparation techniques they have learned. This year the delicious meal included chicken teriyaki, fried brown rice, mixed vegetables, fruit salad, and homemade fortune cookies!
