Collapse ▲As summer temperatures rise and pasture growth patterns shift, effective pasture management becomes more crucial than ever for horse and livestock owners. To provide our local pasture owners with the latest strategies, Extension is hosting a Pasture Renovation Workshop on Thursday, June 26, 2025 on an active farm where attendees will learn about pasture management and see first-hand our current field trial utilizing crabgrass as a summer grazing option.
This timely workshop, organized in collaboration with NC State Extension’s Amazing Grazing program, will cover practices specifically designed to improve and maintain healthy pastures, particularly during the challenging summer months. While the workshop is on a horse farm, the principles and techniques discussed apply to all types of livestock grazing.
Key aspects of pasture management that will be highlighted at the workshop include:
- Point-Step Pasture Evaluation
- Pasture Ecology
- Process of Establishment
- Grazing Management Strategies
Summer management is critical for the long-term health and productivity of our pastures. This workshop offers practical, research-backed information that producers can implement immediately to ensure our pastures remain a valuable asset, even when faced with high temperatures and changing rainfall patterns.
